Day One: San Telmo, Centro & Recoleta
Morning: San Telmo & La Boca
Start your day wandering through the atmospheric San Telmo. Its cobblestone streets brim with antique shops, colourful murals, and the aroma of sizzling empanadas. Stop for lunch at the bustling San Telmo Market, where local flavours and lively chatter spill into every corner. From here, head south to colourful La Boca. Stroll along Caminito, watch tango dancers in the street, and, if you’re a football fan, step inside the legendary stadium La Bombonera.

Afternoon: Microcentro & Recoleta
In the city center (Microcentro), history rises around you. On Plaza de Mayo, stand beneath the famous balcony of the Casa Rosada, where Evita once addressed the nation, imagining the crowd and her stirring farewell (don’t cry for me, Argentina). Later continue her story at the Evita Perón Museum – a must for feminists and history lovers alike.
Pause for coffee at Café Tortoni – the city’s oldest and most atmospheric café. Enjoy a vermouth at the emblematic bistro Los Galgos, before stepping back into culture with a show at Piazzolla Tango or a visit to the majestic Teatro Colón and the ornate Palacio Barolo.

As evening starts to fall and the light changes, shift into the elegant neighbourhood Recoleta for a change of scenery. Stroll through elegant streets, and still on the path of Eva Perón pay your respects at her resting place – the Cementerio de Recoleta (very mystical atmosphere at golden hour). Lose yourself among the shelves of El Ateneo Grand Splendid, a former theater transformed into a bookstore of dreams.

Art lovers will find their eldorado at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano (MALBA). Don’t miss a photo stop at the futuristic Floralis Genérica, the giant metal flower that opens with the sun and closes at night.
When the day draws to a close, raise a glass nearby: sip a sundowner at the chic Hotel Pulitzer or uncover a hidden cocktail at Florería Atlántico. It’s the perfect end to your first day in Buenos Aires.

Day Two: Palermo
Your second day belongs to Palermo, the city’s green lung and trendiest quarter. Palermo deserves a full day on its own.
Daytime in Palermo Soho: Parks & hipster-boho vibes
Spend the morning exploring the Bosques de Palermo: wander through the serene Jardín Botánico, admire the blooms of El Rosedal, and find tranquility in the Jardín Japonés.

When you’re ready for the creative buzz, head into Palermo Soho, where life revolves around Plaza Serrano. Cafés, bars, shops, galleries, and craft markets spill into the streets – everything a hipster-boho heart (mine;)) could ask for.
Discover the hidden charm of the courtyard Patio de Marruecos and stroll through Distrito Arcos, a modern open-air shopping arcade built beneath old railway arches. When hunger strikes, head to Burger Joint – my personal must (best burger EVER, hands down!), followed by some indulgent ice cream at Lucciano’s.

Nighttime in Palermo Hollywood
As day fades, the city comes alive in Palermo… To wrap up your day like a local, have an aperitivo at one of the buzzing bars tucked under the railway tracks in Palermo. As evening approaches, cross into Palermo Hollywood. This is where Buenos Aires truly comes alive at night, with an endless choice of bars and restaurants.
Seek out the speakeasies Uptown and Frank’s for cocktails behind hidden doors – the perfect finale to your 48 hours in Buenos Aires – a city that blends history and modernity, passion and style, in every heartbeat.

PS: Should you be in Palermo Hollywood earlier, browse the sprawling Mercado de las Pulgas, a flea market filled with antiques and vintage treasures that will leave you wishing you lived in the city just to take some of it home.
